Michael Flatley to ‘lord’ it in Castlebar

MICHAEL FLATLEY will bring his Lord Of The Dance show to The Royal Castlebar on Saturday January 3 to Thursday 8.

Flatley was taught his first Irish dancing steps at the age of four by his maternal grandmother who was a champion Irish dancer. At 17 he became the first American to win the title of World Irish Dancing Champion.

Flatley came to national attention when he took part in the Mayo 5000 celebrations of 1993 and became a household name following his starring role in Riverdance - alongside Jean Butler - at Eurovision 94.

Riverdance was expanded to a full-length production and toured the world to great acclaim. In 1995 Flatley left to produce, direct, and choreograph his own show.

Lord Of The Dance premiered at the Point Theatre in Dublin in 1996 and won much praise before touring Russia, the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Israel, and Lebanon. It has been recognised as the world's highest grossing dance show, selling in excess of $500,000,000 worth of tickets.
