Get walking and talking for Jigsaw

Claregalway village will be the setting for a special ‘Walk and Talk’ event to raise funds for the Jigsaw counselling service.

The event, which will take place this Sunday June 30, will start off at 2pm from the Central Tavern in Loughgeorge and finish a mile away at the Nine Arch Bridge, Claregalway.

The participants are also encouraged to wear something green, the official colour of mental health, to turn the walk into a ‘green mile’. For all those who will be unable to attend the walk, from home or abroad, Ginalee Healy is urging everyone to put a picture up of themselves wearing something green on Facebook to show their support for the event. The aim is to spread awareness and to turn Facebook green for mental health.

The event is the second of its kind to be organised by local 17-year-old Ginalee.

“One in three teens have a mental health issue. We need to lose the stigma and we need to talk about it,” says Ginalee. “We are hoping for a big turnout so if you are going to walk that mile, why not wait until 2pm and walk it with us.”

All donations and funds raised at the event will go to Jigsaw Galway. The Arches Hotel will host a BBQ upon completion of the walk for everyone involved. There will also be a minimum donation for the food for all who have walked and talked with Ms Healy, which will also go towards the Jigsaw service.
