The House Cocktail Bar puts Galway on the map

The House Hotel’s mixologists were making a name for themselves last week in what proved to be a successful week for the city centre boutique hotel. On Sunday, Colm Whelan was crowned Irish Coffee making champion and will now represent Powers as the Irish Coffee Ambassador for 2014.

The Powers Irish Coffee Making Championships event saw four finalists compete for the crystal trophy, cheque for €500, two return tickets to New York, and the prestigious title of the world’s foremost Irish coffee craftsman.

Looking very smart on the evening, Colm fended off stiff competition from some of Ireland’s finest establishments and showing not an ounce of nerves he took to the stage and wooed the judges with what can only be described as the performance of the night.

In another signification occasion for Galway’s top cocktail bar they were this week nominated by the Restaurant Association of Ireland for “Best Cocktail Experience” in this year’s RAI Awards.

Cillian Fox, mixologist at The House Cocktail Bar, travelled to Dublin yesterday to present The House Hotel’s creation of their signature cocktail celebrating the Irish Restaurant Awards “Most than meets the RAI” to the judges for an award which goes to the restaurant which brings a creative and considered approach to cocktails, coupled with flair and imaginative presentation.

The House Hotel will now attend the gala RAI Awards next Monday June 10, in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin where the winners of all awards will be announced.

Margaret Jenkins, General Manager at The House Hotel commended the barmen on their achievements noting, “They’re an absolute asset to us here at The House Hotel and we’re delighted that our guys have once again been recognised as some of the best in the country at what they do.”
