Manogue faces flying Frenchman in title defence

Castlepark man Gary "Slick" Manogue, who fights out of the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym in the city, will make a mandatory first defence of his IKF European supermiddleweight title on Sunday.

The European number two seed, David Blais from Nantes in France, is flying in as challenger to Manogue’s crown and he will prove a tough test for the hard-hitting Galwegian.

If Manogue is successful, he has been promised a crack at the world title against world number two seed Marco Capobianco from Canada - a fight that could take place in Galway at the end of this year.

Manogue, however, has his eyes firmly fixed on Blais for this Sunday and is taking nothing for granted and will be looking for the knockout to copperfasten his next big challenge, or certainly a convincing points victory.

There is an exciting full undercard featuring 12 more Galway fighters from the Black Dragon gym taking on fighters from all over Ireland.

Doors open at the Clayton Hotel at 4pm with the first fight set for 5pm.

Tickets are available from the Black Dragon Gym, the fighters, the Clayton Hotel, or a limited number at the door on the day. For more information telephone 087 8119227.
