Dangerous driving causing death accused remanded on bail

A 32-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving causing the death of a woman late last year.

The Galway District Court heard on Monday how Grzegorz Kolek with an address at 153 Rahylin Glebe, Ballybane, had been arrested on the morning of the court sitting. The Polish national was charged with driving in a manner, including speed, which having regard to all circumstances of the case (including the condition of the vehicle, the nature, condition, and use of the location, and the amount of traffic ) was dangerous to the public, causing the death of Bridget Kelly at Headford Road on November 8, 2012.

Inspector Sean Glynn told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the matter being dealt with summarily in the district court on a plea of guilty only.

Defence solicitor Sean Acton made an application for bail and requested statements. Kolek was then remanded on his own bail of €600, with €300 cash lodgement, with the conditions that he sign on at Oranmore Garda Station on Monday and Friday between 9am and 2pm, and he surrender his passport and does not apply for any further travel documents.

Judge Denis McLoughlin remanded Kolek on continuing bail to appear again at Galway District Court on June 26 for a plea to be entered.
