Mary Gauthier @ Monroe’s Live

MARY GAUTHIER, one of the leading Americana singer-songwriters, is coming to Monroe’s Live on Friday May 3 at 8.30pm.

The Louisiana native-turned-Nashville resident has recorded six studio and one live album; her songs have been praised by such outstanding songwriters as Bob Dylan and Tom Waits; and been covered by Jimmy Buffett, Boy George, and Candi Staton.

Her 2005 album Mercy Now earned her the Americana Music Association’s New/Emerging Artist of the Year award; while 2011’s The Foundling made the LA Times Top 10 albums for that year.

Mary has also received tremendous critical acclaim. Randy Lewis in The LA Times said: “She’s a unique, intrinsically valuable musical voice”; American Songwriter said there is “a penetrating potency to Gauthier’s delivery”; while The Alternate Root called her “a firefly on a summer evening – subtle but just stunning and uncommon enough to be fascinating”.

“As a songwriter, I’m always trying to go to the deepest possible place inside of me,” Mary has said of herself. “Past the navel-gazing, past the self-conscious, to get to that ‘we’, ‘cause deep inside of all of us is the universal.”

Tickets are €20 and available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
