Unbeaten Galway Ladies secure home semi-final

Galway Ladies have secured a home National League semi-final draw against Westmeath following last Sunday’s final round.

And when they face Westmeath on April 28, they do so with an unbeaten record, having shared the spoils with division two’s top-of-the-table outfit Kerry.

Both Kerry and Galway finished with the same number of championship points, but Kerry take the No 1 spot with a superior points difference.

And there was nothing between them at the final whistle last Sunday ,which finished Kerry 3-10 Galway 2-13.

Galway, playing with a strong wind in the first half, were two points up by the sixth minute. But in a three minute spell, Kerry pounced for two goals to take the lead before Galway responded with some quality points.

Galway took the lead again, only for Kerry to score another goal, but in thg=e final minute of the half Roisin Leonard smashed the ball to the net to take a 1-10 to 3-2 lead into the second half.

Galway stretched the lead with two more before Kerry upped their pace. In a critical period they scored eight points without reply as Galway found the going tough against the wind.

With the clock running down Galway showed great determination. Sub Marie Brennan found herself clear on goal, only for her shot to go just over the crossbar, but from the kickout Galway won posession and Annette Clarke rattled the back of the net in the third minute of injury time to level things up.
