Maurice Walsh exhibits in Renzo Café

TWO MILLION Miles Away is the title of a new exhibition by Galway artist, Maurice Walsh, which is currently running at the Renzo Café in Eyre Street.

This is Maurice’s second solo exhibition, following his debut Town Hall show last June. Although keen on drawing since childhood, he left school at 17, and trained in antique furniture restoration.

Returning to education as a mature student at GMIT Cluain Mhuire, and graduating just before his 50th birthday, he has developed an unusual style of painting which he calls ‘mop and lance’.

Two of the paintings on display, Paddy O’Brien’s Shed and No Planning, address issues close to the artist’s heart - rural and urban decline. The first depicts the isolation of bachelor life in contemporary Ireland; the second mixes elements of Cork and Galway, including Galway’s Curran’s Bar and Cork’s Shandon area

Two Million Miles Away runs until May 26 and a limited number of prints can be purchased. See also www.mauricewalshartist.com
