The ‘bewitching’ Julie Hawk @ Róisín Dubh

GALWAY BORN, London based, singer-songwriter Julie Hawk will play a hometown show in the Róisín Dubh this Sunday at 9pm.

Julie is currently promoting her new EP The Value of Gold, released in February, and will perform songs from it on the night. The EP includes a cover of The Smiths’ ‘This Charming Man’.

Julie grew up in Galway in a musical household, learning piano, fiddle, and guitar, before studying English at NUIG. After university she moved to London to pursue music. Her influence includes Bob Dylan, The Slits, Kate Bush, Sleater Kinney, and composers Arvo Pärt and Eric Whitacre.

Julie, who has played support to Benjamin Francis Leftwich and The Magic Numbers’ Michele Stodart, has also enjoyed critical praise. Acoustic Magazine said the “stark beauty of Julie Hawk’s music is a rare gem indeed”; Outsidersmusica.it called her voice a “mesmerising entity”; while Ringmaster called her “bewitching” with a “vocal style which lights up the air”.
