Galway Sea Festival public information meeting

The first Galway Sea Festival takes place on the June Bank Holiday Weekend and a public information meeting will be held tonight Thursday 21 March at 6pm in the Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square.

All involved in business, tourism, marine, and leisure activity are invited and welcome to attend to hear plans and share views on the festival.

The festival will seek to celebrating Galway’s maritime history and culture, Galway Bay, and waterways, while seeking to promote Galway as Ireland’s leading maritime centre.

The four-day event will include an international marine conference on sustainable energy, wind, wave, and maritime resources; the Galway Bay Sailing Club Gathering Regatta which will feature some 45 racers; as well as sea kayaking, wind surfing, canoeing, swimming, and fishing competitions. On-shore activities will include beach walks and sandcastle competitions.

There will also be an emphasis on food, maritime and heritage talks, and fairground attractions and family amusements.

The Galway Sea Festival is supported by the IPB Gathering Initiative and indeed has been chosen as one of Galway’s priority/flagship events for The Gathering.

The festival is being led by a non-profit community group drawn from business and the marine in Galway and using experienced local professional event management expertise.
