World snooker ace Selby headlines championship finals in Galway

Nine of the world’s top 10 ranked stars will battle it out for one of the biggest prizes in world snooker in Galway from March 12 to 17.

The €119,000 Players Tour Championship Grand Finals take place in Galway at the Bailey Allen Hall at NUI Galway, headlined by world number one and Masters champion Mark Selby.

Four-time world champion John Higgins, potting sensation Judd Trump, Asia’s top player Ding Junhui and Ireland’s Ken Doherty are also among the 32 players taking part. Also back on the circuit is Belfast’s Joe Swail who qualified as an amateur, having dropped out of the world’s top 64 after a severe loss of form.

The other Irish qualifier is Antrim’s Mark Allen, who won the Haikou World Open on Sunday night.

The PTC series has seen players battling for order of merit points over the past six months in 13 locations including China, Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, Belgium and Britain.

The quarter-finals take place on Saturday March 16, followed by the semi-finals on Sunday March 17 at 1pm and 30m, with the final scheduled for 8pm.
