Eating a predominantly plant based diet can have very positive effects on both physical and mental health. Rosanna Davison, final year nutritional therapy student at the College of Naturopathic Medicine, switched over 18 months ago. “Within two weeks I began to notice the many benefits, including improved energy, sleep, mental clarity and calmness, improved immunity, and increased fitness and muscle tone,” she said. “I have learned the true secret to improved long-term health and weight management, and what’s more that it is really easy.”
Two top tips from Rosanna are: Include an abundance of vegetables at every meal, and secondly, purchase a blender and have a green smoothie every day. The recipe she recommends is 150kg of kale or baby spinach, two stalks of celery, one ripe banana, one green apple, six large chunks of fresh pineapple, a squeeze of lemon or lime, a tablespoon of chopped fresh ginger, a glass of cold water, and crushed ice to chill.
“Starving your body to lose weight is no fun and will never work as a long-term solution, so I focus on eating a wide range of fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and gluten-free whole grains like quinoa, to obtain every macro and micro-nutrient I require,” Rosanna Davison added. “I listen to what my body needs, continually cleanse from the inside, fill up on fresh veggies at every meal, and never worry about consuming too much or too little.”
