ARTWORKS, SOUND pieces, photographs, and poetry inspired by the architecture of Galway city’s west end forms the basis of a new, youth led, exhibition.
The Galway Arts Centre’s Red Bird Youth Collective, in collaboration with artist and architect Blaithin Quinn, will host Shaping Space in the Nuns Island Arts Centre.
Red Bird is a youth led collective based in the arts centre. Its members are aged between 16 and 24. The exhibition presents the 11 participants individual responses to the built environment, including a sound piece evoking the sounds of the area, an interactive game about local architecture, documentation of an outdoor living room, and photos of the Nuns Island Theatre. The artworks were made during workshops facilitated by Quinn.
Shaping Space seeks to encourage the public to engage with Galway’s architecture and to increase awareness and appreciation of the built environment.
Shaping Space opens in the Nuns Island Theatre this Saturday at 2pm. The exhibition runs until March 22 (closed 17 and 18 ). There will be a tour and talk on Friday 16 at 2pm. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm (closed 1pm - 2pm ).
Red Bird will screen its original film Belong on Sunday March 24 at 2pm in Nuns Island. The group wrote, filmed, and edited the film with artist Jonathan Sammon and special effects technician Ruadhrí Brennan.
