• Galway’s Kevin McGlade claimed gold on the final day of competition at the Dave McCullagh Memorial Gala in Limerick at the weekend, winning the 50m freestyle final in 24.30. He then went on to win silver in the 50m breaststroke final, while another Galway swimmer, Dairne Ryan, also took silver in the women’s 50m freestyle in 27.57. Galway’s good run continued in the 100m butterfly final with David O’Sullivan (57.31 ) claiming gold.
•This year’s Conamara Duathlon was won by Jude McEntee of Ennis Tri Club, following a tight battle between the first four finishers. He finished the race in 59:16, followed shortly by Mayo’s Stephen Donnelly of Liquid Motion and Killian Heery of Mucknoo.
The women’s race was won by Anna Crooks in 1:07:00, who finished 10th overall. Crooks opened a significant lead on local TríSpórt athlete, Marie Boyle, on the first run, and maintained that lead for the rest of the race. Boyle finished second in a time of 1:11:19.
First veteran was north Connemara man, James Kane of Tri Conn, who finished in 1:07:45, 13th overall, and first junior was TríSpórt’s Cian Geraghty who came in at 1:11:24.
•Fr Griffins Éire Óg GAA Club will be holding its juvenile registration on Sunday in the Menlo Park Hotel from 2pm to 4pm. Refreshments will be served. The club caters for all aged from eight years to 17, in addition to adult football. The club area comprises the Claddagh, city centre, Woodquay, Terryland, Ballinfoyle, Menlo and Castlegar.
