Moycullen handballer scoops top GAA award

Moycullen's handball ace Martin Mulkerrins picked up three awards at the recent provincial GAA awards ceremony.

The recipient of the GAA Connacht 2012 Junior Player for Handball and sports personality of the month for October, Mulkerrins also claimed the overall sports’ award, The Connacht GAA Writers Personality of the Year Award 2012 and was presented with the Michael McDonnell Memorial Award.

Other nominees for the 2012 award were Mayo footballers Barry Moran, Conor Mortimor, Kevin McLoughlin and Cora Staunton; Galway hurlers Cyril Donnellan and Iarla Tannian, Sligo’s Adrian Marren, Roscommon’s Paddy Brogan, Clonbur manager Stephen Joyce, and St Bridget’s footballer Senan Kilbride.

Mulkerrins' most notable achievements for 2012 included winning the World u-19 doubles title, USHA Collegiates Open Title, u-19 representative on the Team Ireland for Worlds 2012, and his elevation to senior at only 19 after winning the All-Ireland Intermediate Singles title.
