Moycullen head into this weekend’s double header against UCC Demons and DCU Saints knowing their hopes of making the play-offs are on the line.
Currently one game behind Killester and with the same record as DCU, Moycullen will need big performances against the Demons on Saturday before they face DCU Saints on Sunday in a game that will go a long way to deciding who gets the final play-off position
Moycullen were comfortably beaten by UCD Marian in their most recent Superleague performance on Saturday night in Dublin. Marian, buoyed by the return of Dan James, gave the young Moycullen guards problems as they struggled to get the ball inside to Pat Sullivan and Stephen Tummon in the first quarter.
Marian continued with the same defensive intensity in the second quarter as they held Moycullen to just 22 points in the first half, and at the opposite end Kevin Foley helped them to a 37-22 half-time lead.
There was a brief respite for Moycullen at the start of the second half when they set up a zone defence, while Salva Camps and Pat Sullivan scored a number of baskets to bring it back to a nine-point game. Unfortunately, this is as close as the Galway side got as Dan James, Liam Conroy and Conor Meaney helped give the home side a commanding lead before running out comfortable 77-55 winners.
Moycullen: Patrick Sullivan (17 ), Salva Camps (13 ), Stephen Tummon (11 ), Cian Nihill (10 ), James O’Brien (4 ), Nollaig Cunningham, Patrick Lyons, Dylan Costelloe, Ian Burke, Rory Gilson.
