Job creation open night to help Galway jobseekers

Those searching for alternative or further work opportunites as well as the long term unemployed are being urged to attend a jobs iniative open night next week where they will have the chance to meet with local employers and also learn more about various training and work placement programmes.

Highlighting these job creation iniatives, Fine Gael Galway senator Fidelma Healy Eames, is confident the open night, which is being held on Thursday, February 28, will go a long way in helping people find alternative work or provide the opportunities for unemployed in Galway to get back to work.

The Job Creation Initiative Oranmore team will be hosting the open night with guest local employers at 7pm in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel.

Meanwhile, the National Momentum Skills Initiative, in conjunction with the Irish Centre for Business Excellence and the City & Guilds, will deliver two full-time programmes, combining employability and technical training with a directed work placement for people who have been out of work over 12 months.

Speaking about the importance of such iniatives Senator Healy Eames said: “What JCIO is trying to provide for unemployed people is a more real sense of what employers look for in the individual: desirable skills, attitudes and experience in relation to a variety of fields. We have asked the local employers attending the open night to give a brief outline on what is desirable in their businesses, and to outline possible future job opportunities within their sector.

“The open night will be followed by a series of workshops in March. Areas that will be covered include; personal histories, confidence building, motivation and goal-setting, CV and interview prep. The course will then culminate in a final networking afternoon on Friday, April 19 where they will pitch their case to local employers and recruitment agencies. The special guest on the day will be well known entrepreneur, Senator Feargal Quinn.

“A special feature of the open evening will be our teaming up with the National Momentum programme to assist those more than 12 months unemployed. From next month on the Irish Centre for Business Excellence (ICBE ), in conjunction with City & Guilds, will deliver two full-time programmes over a period of 20 weeks.
