Former book-keeper faces trial for stealing nearly €10,500

The trial of a former city centre nightclub book-keeper who denies fraudulantly stealing €10,490 from her employer during a period of more than a year is due to begin this morning before a jury.

At Galway Circuit Criminal Court on Tuesday Ann McNamara (32 ) with an address at Dromandoore, Cahir, Co Clare, was arraigned and entered a plea of not guilty to one count of theft, contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud ) Act 2001, in that between January 1, 2009, and January 21, 2010 at 36 Upper Abbeygate Street did steal the sum of €10,490, the property of Declan Farrell and Morris Gillan.

The court heard that the accused had been employed by CPs nightclub and had been working as a book-keeper during that time. A jury of seven men and five women was then empanelled and the trial is due to begin this morning. It is thought that the trial could go into a second day.
