Local songwriter hoping to set the Eurovision stage alight

Originally from Dublin but now living in Knocnacarra, Niall Mooney will be once again vying to have his composition selected as the Irish entry for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. He was first struck by euro song fever in 2009 when he penned the Irish entry which was sung by Niamh Kavanagh. He repeated this feat again in 2010, and now he is renewing his fervour for the Eurovision Song Contest with a song entitled ‘Fire’ and sung by Mulingar resident, Zoe Alexis.

She will be performing on the Late Late Show on February 22, as part of a competition to determine which number will be chosen as the Irish entry for this year’s Contest.

The video for the song has already reached the Youtube platform and so far has garnered a hit count of more than 80,000 after only five days of trending. Niall Mooney has great faith in the singer and believes that audiences will be captivated by the dance music influences when she sings on The Late Late Show. “It’s very much like a David Guetta track, it’s a dance song. Zoe’s a fantastic talent. Record labels are already coming to me inquiring about her. She’s going to be the next big Irish talent since Samantha Mumba.”

Zoe’s profile has accumulated vast attention since she formed an association with One Direction through her childhood friend Niall Horan. She shared the stage with the band in several Irish venues and Horan has aided her promotion even further by tweeting her. The 21 year old has already acquired a solid foundation in stage performance with gaining the preference of Niall Breslin on The Voice of Ireland, working with German producer Thimbaland, and forming the girl group UndergrounD with Breslin.

Niall Mooney is a full time accountant but still manages to compose songs since discovering his knack for the craft in 2003. He is confident that Zoe Alexis will feature well, and if selected to represent Ireland, he predicts that she could end the drought of Ireland’s Eurovision wins. “Previous winners in recent years have been very professional about their performance and that’s what we’re doing here. The song is relevant to the popular music industry and Ireland is placed well in the semi-final this year so we are in a good position to do well. But it’s important that people vote for her on the night,” he added.
