Plans to set up mini-basketball for primary school pupils in Galway will be discussed at a special meeting to be hosted by Basketball Ireland.
The newly-appointed national committee for primary schools is keen to offer opportunities for children to participate in extra-curricular mini-basketball at a local level, and as a result it will host a special teachers’ course and meeting next Tuesday (February 5 ) in Galway.
The course will include a one-hour activity based course on the basic skills of mini-basketball with teaching games suitable for both the PE lesson and after school session, as well as a 30 minute meeting which will discuss the setting up of a local pilot extra curricular programme which might include tournaments or leagues.
Basketball Ireland will support the setting up of a committee to administer mini-basketball in Galway with a€400 grant to cover general initial expenses as well as providing access to mini-basketball skills and teaching games, a website and courses including Summer Courses with EPV days.
All interested schools in County Galway are invited to send a teacher/representative. The course will be held in Gael Scoil Dara, Renmore, Galway, from 4.15pm to 6pm. Schools can register their interest by letter with details or by email to [email protected]
