Tidy Towns volunteers sought for Saturday

The Galway City Tidy Towns group is calling for volunteers this Saturday to help remove fly posters and graffiti, weeding, and picking up of litter.

The Tidy Towns committee will be supported by volunteers from Glan Suas and also the Serve The City group. Every week the group meets at Claddagh and Celtic Jewellery beside Jury’s Hotel in the Spanish Parade at 11am.

Labour city councillor Niall McNelis, who is heavily involved in the Galway Tidy Towns said the committee is preparing a project called Adopt a Spot, which will involve all schools in the city centre assisting in keeping a particular area litter and graffiti free.

It is also going to relaunch the monthly Shop Front Award where businesses are recognised for making an extra effort in keeping the area around the front of their shops clean. This will include grass removal on kerbs, pipes along roofs cleaned and promoting flower baskets.
