Corinthians head to Banbridge on Saturday intent on maintaining their momentum in this season’s lster Bank League division 2A.
The Cloonacauneen outfit remain in top four contention after a worthy 20-3 victory over Highfield on Saturday last weekend.
Corinthians struck after 25 minutes when, capitalising on a penalty, fullback Conor Murphy’s supplied Darren Classen who touched down in the corner.
Corinthians scored their second try just before the break after fine work in the lineout by lock Ultan Diddane who then drove forward setting up a maul for the pack to drive over with hooker Kevin O’Byrne claiming the touchdown. The convert was again wide, leaving the home side leading 10-0.
Highfield began to dominate early in the second half, putting the home side under severe pressure, and outhalf Paddy Ryan converted a penalty to kickstart the visitors, and they were unlucky not to score shortly after when left wing Dave Kelly dribbled the ball up to the field with the try line at his mercy. but it just rolled into touch in the corner.
Although Corinthians lost hooker Kevin O’Byrne to the sinbin, some quick thinking from flanker Sean Gerrity initiated an attack from his own 22. Spoort from lock Dillane and outhalf Dave Panter was finished by centre James Buckley who crossed the whitewash for a third try.
With time running out the Model Road outfit put the pressure on the home side again with centres Jason Carton and Wayne Falvey driving forward. As winger Dave Kelly was about to receive the final pass just short of the Corinthian line, Classens made a vital interception and ran the full length of the pitch to score Corinthians’ four bonus-point try.
