The Galway senior hurlers take their first steps in competitive action in the 2013 season when they face Carlow in the Bord Na Mona Walsh Cup this Sunday in Carlow (2pm ).
The panel enjoyed a successful and enjoyable trip to Dubai over the past few weeks and they played Offaly in a challenge upon their return.
No doubt the current Leinster champions and All-Ireland finalists will be refreshed and eager to start the new season well and play as many games as they can prior to the start of the NHL.
It will be interesting over the coming weeks to see how much game time some of the newer members of the panel are given, and where 2011 captain Shane Kavanagh lines out.
Gort’s Sylvie Óg Linnane is also included in the panel following another impressive season at club level and his supporters will be eager to see how he plays at inter-county level.
The winners on Sunday will face either Dublin or UCD in the Walsh Cup semi-final and, despite Carlow’s big win over Antrim in their first game, Galway are still expected to advance.
Galway supporters are already looking to the side’s first game in the National Hurling League when they face Kilkenny at home in Pearse Stadium.
