Further remand for woman accused of €25,000 theft

A woman charged with stealing €25,000 after money was mistakenly tranferred into her account and she failed to report it has been further remanded on continuing bail after a judge refused jurisdiction in the case.

Therese Murray (50 ) with an address at 139 Clybaun Road appeared at Galway District Court on Monday charged with allegedly stealing property, to the sum of €25,000, the property of another person, at Irish Nationwide Building Society, Nationwide House, Grand Parade, Dublin 6, on May 21, 2009, contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud ) Act 2001.

The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the matter being dealt with summarily in the District Court on a guilty plea only. It is alleged that the injured party had been transferring money to a bank account when she entered the wrong number and the money went into the defendant’s account instead. It was not until December 2010 that the injured party realised the mistake and notified the bank.

Judge Mary Fahy refused to accept jurisdiction in the matter and sent it back to the DPP for futher direction. Murray was then remanded on continuing bail to appear again at Galway District Court on March 27
