Galway Olympian Paul Hession was on hand to present the winners of this year’s Fields of Athenry 10km.
Raheny's Mick Clohissey claimed this year’s title from a field of more than 1,000 runners who took part in the St Stephen’s Day road race despite the wet weather.
The Raheny Shamrocks’ man won this year’s event in a time of 30.56 from Emmet Dunleavy of Sligo AC and Michael Shannon of St John’s in Clare. Elish Kelly, the Irish international cross country runner and Roscommon native, made it a double for the Raheny club when winning the women’s race.
The New Years Day 5k Resolution Run, in aid of Monivea Rugby and Renmore Gymnastics, was won from the start by the top Clare runner Kenny Rodgers. The St John’s AC athlete led the race from gun to tape to win in 15.35. He was followed by 2012 winner and local Galway City Harrier Matt Bidwell, with Paul Buckley of Ferbane AC in third place.
Catherine Conway Mayo AC took the ladies’ race in 17.28 from Irene Gorman of GCH. Among the strong runs from some juvenile Craughwell AC athletes, Jamie Spelman finished in a good time of 16.39.
