Moycullen prepare for a big match this weekend when they host old rivals DCU Saints at NUIG.
And coach Salva Camps is urging all interested basketball fans to support the team on Saturday (3.45pm ).
“I hope we get everyone in basketball in Galway to come out and support the team this Saturday. The guys have been working really hard and are getting closer and closer to where we want to be,” said Camps.
The hard work paid off last weekend when Moycullen finally secured their first win of the Superleague season, beating UCD Marian in Dublin by 77-72.
Although it took two periods of extra time, the victory is a huge boost for the Galway outfit heading into this weekend’s fixture which last year went the Saints’ way in a dramatic overtime period.
With one of the best defensive backcourts in the country, they are led by Irish international Emmet Donnelly who will have to be contained.
Last weekend Moycullen dominated for the majority of the contest, leading for all but a few minutes.
Pat Sullivan, who finished with 30 points, was able to find an array of ways to score, while Camps, back from injury, controlled the game from the point. However it James O’Brien, who returned to Moycullen this year after a season in America, who anchored the strong Moycullen defence and gave Marian a physical matchup on the perimeter that they struggled with all game.
Moycullen led by eight entering the final period, but Marian found their rhythm and a quick surge of scoring saw them take the lead with only three minutes remaining.
However Moycullen pushed the game into overtime and a clinical drive and finish by Camps sealed a fantastic road win for the Galway club.
Setanta TV is filming the match for its new Irish basketball show.
