New recruit Barile leads the way for Titans

Galway Titans Basketball Club men’s team came away with maximum points from their National League weekend games, winning both on the road in Donegal and at home against Kilkenny in the second part of a vital double header.

On Sunday at Renmore Brendan Barile from New York made his long-awaited debut, and he did not dissappoint, with a 75 per cent three-point shooting display in a game total 30 points.

Kilkenny and Titans were both coming off big wins from the previous evening with Kilkenny having scalped the high-flying Ulster Elks by four points at home, and in the earlier exchanges the enormous size of the Kilkenny men hurt the Titans inside.

However Taofik Mustapha was undeterred in defence, while Paulius Tomz chipped away at the scoresheet in a much improved shooting performance that landed him 18 points by game’s end.

At half time the Titans were 40-18 in front, allowing coaches Lint and Considine to give the panel game time. Derek Mulvene opened his account with a big three from downtown, Ollie Brockmann hit the free throws, while Seamus Garrity and Robertus Kinurius drove the basket hard to get six points against the Kilkenny Bigmen.

But the elder statesmen of Connel, Glen, Paulius (17pts ) and Barile kept producing threes to win by 94-40 to the Titans, having overcome Donegal the previous evening by 109-67.
