The campaign to put a halt to proposals to built a substantial windfarm in Connemara has stepped up a gear with an online petition being launched this week.
The windfarm proposal was put forward by Gaoi An Iarthar seeking to construct the development in Derrynea and Lettermuckoo, north of Casla in Connemara. The project consists of 13 windmill, which will be 135 metres in height as well as buildings, roads, and a wind measurement mast.
“This is just the tip of the iceburg,” warned a spokesperson for the opposition group. “Casla is near Rossaveal in Co Galway where the ferries leave for the Aran Islands. This is a bonny part of the world which is almost totally unspoilt at the moment. We are not against sustainable energy and understand how Ireland has to meet renewable resource deadlines, but the west of Ireland is a resource that should not be spoiled by greedy developers and short sighted individuals out to make a quick buck. Please help us by signing this petition that we will include as part of our planning opposition.”
