The Ballyhea-Charleville bondholder protest group will visit Galway on Saturday as part of a western tour of the country.
The Co Cork group has been holding weekly protests since February 2011 against the bailout of bondholders following the recapitalisation of Ireland’s banking system. The protest, which has been continuing for 86 weeks, has also taken place outside the European Central Bank in Frankfurt and the group are now bringing the march to counties along the western seaboard from Cork to Donegal.
The Galway protest will take place on Saturday morning. The Ballyhea-Charleville group has asked participants to gather at the corner of Eyre Square opposite Ceannt Station at 10.45am to participate in the march.
Following the march, at 11.30am, there will be a meeting for people interested in learning more about the debt crisis and sharing ideas about how to resist. The venue for the meeting is the Galway One World Centre, 76 Prospect Hill.
According to the group the regular payments being made to international bondholders will cost every man, woman, and child in the country €15,000 each.
