Ballyloughane Road to get traffic calming measures

Traffic calming measures are due to be installed on the Ballyloughane Road once the plans drawn up by the Galway City Council for the work is agreed by local residents.

Excess speeding on the road occurs on a regular basis and has been a problem for a number of years, according to the Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Terry O’Flaherty.

“As a resident I walk this area on a regular basis and I have witnessed the joy riding and the excess speeding for myself,” she said. “Some drivers take great pleasure in driving at high speed particularly when approaching the narrow bridge. It’s miraculous that a major accident has not occurred.”

The Mayor has made representations on this issue and organised a meeting between local residents and the council. As a result she has welcomed news of the forthcoming inclusion of traffic calming measures. These measure will be in addition to the rumble strips and yield sign that were installed some time ago.
