Works to improve road safety close to a national school on the N18 in Claregalway will be carried out by the end of the year, according to local Fine Gael Galway West TD Brian Walsh.
Concerns about speeding and pedestrian safety had been raised by parents of Claregalway National School pupils, as well as by residents of two nearby housing estates.
The Galway County Council was in contact with the National Roads Authority regarding the design of proposed improvements to the road and funding is now in place for the necessary works.
Dep Walsh said the proposed works would address “serious safety concerns”.
