In the company of Haydn

PIANO SONATAS and flute quartets by the great Austrian composer Jospeh Haydn, a friend and teacher to both Beethoven and Mozart, will be performed in NUI Galway’s Aula Maxima.

The piano sonatas in G major, D major, and E-flat major, along with the flute quartets in D major and G major will be performed by flautist Madeleine Staunton, pianist Peter Tuite, and The ConTempo Quartet on Tuesday October 2 at 8pm.

For those interested in the life of Haydn, on Thursday October 4 at 6.30pm there will be a screening of the full length feature documentary In Search of Haydn by Phil Grabsky at the Huston School of Film and Digital Media at NUIG. Admission is free.

Madeleine Staunton has been a full-time member of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra since 1974. She studied with the eminent flautist, conductor, and chamber musician André Prieur. She is a founder member of contemporary music group Concorde and also plays principal flute with the Orchestra of St Cecilia.

Peter Tuite is establishing himself as one of Ireland’s most individual and brilliant concert pianists. He is the new head of the keyboard faculty at the Royal Irish Academy of Music – the youngest faculty head in the institution’s history.
