Devon girls qualify for finals

Salthill Devon girls have qualified for the finals of Irish u-12 National Blitz.

Three wins in the group stages ensured SDFC are through to the last eight, along with Kilkeerin, Cregmore, and Corrib Rangers from Galway.

Salthill Devon girls were undefeated in the Connacht stages, overcoming Gurteen 2-1; Connacht Rangers 5-0, and CP Ajax 7-0.

Sadhbh Doyle bagged four of the 13 goals, with Megan Mulleady, Meghen Hergerer, Jade O’Toole, and Lucia Lobato getting two each, while central defender Aoife Lynagh also got on the scoresheet. In defence Sarah Dunleavy timed her tackles well and protected the goal which was commanded by Grace Garvey. Meghen and Lilly Hengerer dominated the midfield throughout the group stages, while Aoife McGovern and Sarah Keenan also played also well, demonstrating the strength of the squad.

In round two Salthill Devon, coached by Sean Dunleavy and Mark Hengerer, topped the group with two wins and a draw, with all four Galway teams qualifying. Another five goals from Doyle and one apiece from Lucia Lobato and Meghen Hengerer were enough to seal Devon’s place.
