Really special limited edition Skoda Superb

Skoda is celebrating its history by launching a special edition Superb L&K (Laurin & Klement ).

It is powered by Skoda’s well regarded 2.0TDI, 170bhp diesel engine. The bad news is that just 40 units of this special edition Superb L&K are destined for the Irish market, writes Padraic Deane.

Skoda is the third oldest carmaker in the world, founded by Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement. They established a factory close to Prague in 1895 and expanded rapidly becoming the largest manufacturer in the then Austro-Hungarian Empire by 1912.

The Superb L&K is positioned above the existing highest spec Superb Elegance and shares the same standard equipment plus a host of extras. The 2.0 TDI/125 kW (170bhp ) version of the Superb Saloon L&K sells for €36,645 ex-works.

For an extra €2,050, the Superb L&K sets itself apart displaying a distinctive two-colour L&K design. It also has impressive 18” Sirius alloy wheels and an L&K plaquette on the front bumper.

The limited edition model also features practical and comfortable equipment such as sunset extra tint glass and rear LED lights. The interior is dressed with elegant brown shade leather embossed with the founders L&K logo.

The combi version of the special edition L&K Skoda Superb cost €1,000 more than the saloon.

Commenting to the Advertiser, Raymond Leddy, head of marketing for Skoda Ireland, said: “Skoda has a rich history, situated in the heart of Europe they have overcome two world wars and endured communism to emerge as one of Europe’s most promising car brands. As Skoda continues to grow and release new models into the marketplace with the Citigo released in July and the Rapid expected in Ireland in November, we feel now is a perfect time to commemorate our founders by releasing the Superb L&K.”

You should also note that the 2.0 TDI/125 kW (170 bhp ) is not offered in Ireland in the entry level Active spec. The above recommended prices also include a three years’ warranty.
