Further remand for men accused of false imprisonment

A case in which two men have been charged in relation to an incident which began at a Midlands festival and led to the robbery and false imprisonment of a man in Galway has been further adjourned for the service of books of evidence.

The Galway District Court heard on Monday how arrests were made this month resulting in Martin Scally (28 ) of 5 Ennell View Terrace, Mullingar, Westmeath, being charged with alleged drink driving at Lettershea, Clifden, and falsely imprisoning a man at Galway city on May 28, 2012, and co-accused Hugh Nevin (24 ) of 31 Grange Crescent, Mullingar, Westmeath, being charged with being intoxicated in a public place at Lettershea, Clifden, and falsely imprisoning the same man in Galway city on the same date. Nevin was further charged with related offences of allowing himself to be carried in a car stolen from Life Festival, Belvedere, Mullingar, on May 25 and robbing a man of one Apple iPhone, valued €500, and €5 cash at Belvedere, Moyvore, Mullingar, Westmeath on May 28.

Inspector Mick Coppinger explained how a file had been sent to the DPP and in relation to the Galway charges consent has been given for trial by indictment. Inspector Coppinger then requested that the matter be adjourned to Clifden District Court on September 7 for service of the books of evidence.
