THE GALWAY Theatre Festival will launch its festival programme in the coming days.
The event, now in its fifth year, looks set to be exciting, with new offerings from companies such as The Talking Shop Ensemble and Blue Teapot. The festival has previously presented some Irish and world premieres, as well as site specific performances, professional readings of new scripts, and revivals of modern classics.
Galway-based graphic designer Micheal Reidy beat off competition to win the commission to design the festival image. Micheal has recently set up his own graphic design company, Micheal Does Graphic Design, and his website was launched this week.
“I’m delighted that the festival chose my design,” Micheal said. “It was challenging to combine the idea of theatre with the Nuns Island building, but I think I pulled it off.”
The image is a modern take on the Nuns Island venue. It comprises quotes from well-known plays, including The Glass Menagerie and The Quare Land, the latter of which was discovered during the StageWrite reading series at the 2009 Galway Theatre Festival.
The programme will be available at the Town Hall Theatre and locations around the city in the coming days.
