THIS YEAR marks the 35th anniversary of the passing of the King of rock’n’roll, Elvis Presley, and St Brendan’s Choral and Dramatic Society has announced that its coming show will be a tribute to the King, All Shook Up.
This new musical comedy is based around the music of Elvis. It is 1955 and Chad, a handsome, hip-swivelling, guitar-struming, roustabout, is fresh out of jail. Looking for somewhere to fix his motorbike, he lands in a small town where he causes all the girls palpatations. The mechanic, Natalie, can fix his bike, but can she overhaul his heart?
Following the success of last year’s Footloose, the society were eager to do something equally lively. All Shook Up will take place at the Temperance Hall in Loughrea from November 26 to December 2 (excluding November 30 ). Brian and Sean Power will direct the show, with Shane Farrell as musical director and Elaine and Ali O’Hanlon in charge of choreography.
The society is hosting an informal information and open night at the Lough Rea Hotel on Monday August 27 at 8pm. Anyone who is interested in getting involved will get the chance to meet the committee and find out more about the show. Auditions will be held at the Lough Rea Hotel on September 4 and 5 at 8pm.
The popular STARS reurns this year at the Lough Rea Hotel on Saturday September 15. This is the society’s biggest annual fundraiser and this year promises an exciting line-up. Tickets cost €20, including admission, reserved seating, finger food, and a disco. To book call St Brendan’s Choral and Dramatic Society’s secretary Clodagh Mahony on 086 3067179.
