ATT VOL 5, the new compilation of music from Cian Ó Cíobháin’s leftfield music show An Taobh Tuathail, is now available as a free download.
The 18 track compilation can be downloaded from www.rte.ie/rnag until October 1 and was put together by Cian. Among the Irish artists on Att Vol 5, are Lyric FM composer-in-residence Linda Buckley with a remix of ‘B-Movie Lighting’; Dublin’s Roger Doyle’s moving paean to his deceased parents, ‘Voices Of Parents’; Donegal-based Keith Mannion’s SlowPlaceLikeHome project; and a haunting song from Waterford’s Katie Kim.
Of Galway interest is the track ‘Teen Wolf’ by England’s Songs Of Green Pheasant (aka Duncan Sumpner ). ‘Teen Wolf’ is the opening track on Sumpner’s most recent album Soft Wounds, which was released on the independent Galway label Rusted Rail.
Also included on the compilation are Welsh band Dau Cefn who sing in Cymraeg; Los Angelus composer and multi-instrumentalist Julia Holter; and ‘Forests’ by the young Dutch songwriter Torus.
“There’s a lot of work involved in the compilations, but I enjoy it,” says Cian. “The main reason I do it is to create a kind of ‘audio flyer’ to entice new ears to the show. There is so much music out there being ignored by radio, and I like to think that ATT is helping artists who might otherwise not get exposure via airplay.”
An Taobh Tuathail is broadcast on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta from Monday to Friday at 9pm.
