Rugby legend is special guest in Oughterard

One of Ireland’s most renown rugby players, Fergus Slattery, will be the guest of honour a Oughterard Rugby Cub “start of the season” open day on Saturday.

Slattery, capped 61 times for Ireland, was captain of the most successful Irish touring side when in 1979 it won seven of the eight matches in Australia including the two tests in Brisbane and Sydney.

The open day celebrations take place between 1pm and 4pm with a barbecue, rugby themed games, face painting and children’s entertainment.

Player registration will also take place for any player aged five to 50 who is interested in training and playing.
