Further adjournment for false imprisonment case

The case of a 28-year-old man accused of falsely imprisoning a person at a city centre restaurant has been further adjourned to the November sittings of Galway Circuit Criminal Court.

Chandravee Jhurry with an address given as 50 Woodfield, Cappagh Road, Barna, and formerly of 74 Cill Ard, Bohermore, is charged with the false imprisonment of a person at Mauritian Creole Cuisine, Forster Street, on January 16, 2012, contrary to Section 15 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

The case had been listed for Galway Circuit Court last week for arraignment where the accused was expected to make his attitude to the charge known. However, defence counsel Aisling Wall, BL, informed presiding Judge Raymond Groarke that there had been a “change of position” and requested a further adjournment.

Judge Groarke granted an adjournment to next sittings commencing November 13.
