The cream of Irish indie for Popical Island Invasion

POPICAL ISLAND, the exciting Irish indie label, will showcase some of its very best bands with a major night in the Róisín Dubh on Thursday August 16 from 8pm.

The ‘Popical Island Invasion’ will mark the release of the label’s latest compilation Popical Island #3 and there will be shows both upstairs and downstairs on the night.

Popical Island #3 is a 23-track double-sided release, which will be available for purchase on the night on cassette (for hipsters who missed out/were too young for tapes the first time around! ) and limited-edition CD, both adorned with unique home-made artwork. It is also available as a download from popicalisland.bandcamp.com (Popical Island #1 and #2 are available as free downloads from Bandcamp ).

Featured artists include Big Monster Love, Pantone247, Mumblin’ Deaf Ro, Tieranniesaur, Land Lovers, Groom, Jonny Fun and the Hesitations, Grand Pocket Orchestra, Paddy Hanna, The Run Ons, Squarehead, Ginnels, Patrick Kelleher, Skelocrats, Little Xs for Eyes, Yeh Deadlies, Walpurgis Family, Lie Ins, Biggles Flies Again, and Galway bands So Cow and Dott.

For next Thursday’s show in the Róisín, the line-up for downstairs is singer-songwriter Big Monster Love (9.30pm ); Land Lovers (10.30pm ); GPO (11.30pm ), and concluding with what promises to be the highlight of the night - the funk/disco/indie-pop fusion of the mighty Tieranniesaur (12.30pm ).

Upstairs boasts Lie Ins (10pm ); the brilliant surf-rockers Squarehead (11pm ); the great garage-pop band Dott (12 midnight ); the eccentrically wonderful So Cow (1pm ), and Walpurgis Family (1.30pm ).

Admission is free.
