Garda are seeking information in relation to a burglary at a tyre centre in Oranmore at the weekend where a large consignment of tyres, a tyre changer, wheel balancer, and wheel alignment equipment were stolen.
The break in occurred at W Kenny Tyres Ltd at Glenascaul Industrial Estate in Oranmore in the early hours of Sunday morning. It is understood that the thieves made off with up to 200 car tyres, including up to 60 Starmaxx Ice Gripper winter tyres, 20 Petlas Full Grip winter tyres. Other tyre brands taken include Accelera, Infinity, Zeta, and Wanli. A number of truck tyres were taken including Bandag, Bridgestone, and Continental patterns. The thieves also made off with a set of 22” Kahn Alloy wheels and tyres to fit a Range Rover, a Phoenix tyres changer, wheel balancer, and Corhi wheel alignment equipment.
Before entering the premises through the side door the thieves cut the telephone lines, disabled the alarm and CCTV system, and later stole the DVR recorders. After entering the thieves are thought to have opened the roller shutter door at the front of the premises so that the consignment of tyres and workshop equipment could be loaded onto a truck.
Garda in Oranmore are continuing their investigations into the matter and are urging members of the tyre trade to be vigilant and to be alert if offered tyres or workshop equipment in suspicious circumstances. Anyone with information is asked to contact Oranmore Garda Station.
