British singer-songwriters to play Portumna

BRITISH SINGER-songwriters Jake Morley and Liz Lawrence will play Portumna on Saturday August 4 at 8.30pm in the town’s Church of Ireland church.

Liz Lawrence has been described by Q magazine as “Florence [& The Machine]-minus-the-hollering, stomping stage routine hinting at a feisty little madam beneath the adorable, heavy fringe-adorned veneer, promising a new starlet in the making”. Ani Difranco called her “a beautiful artist who lives on the edge”.

Her debut album Bedroom Hero is now out, while a three-track EP, Live From No 82 has just been released.

Jake Morley’s intriguing lap tapping guitar style, his strong songs and engaging performances convert initially curious audiences into ardent fans at every gig.

“I love writing but I’m at my happiest on a stage performing,” he says. “I’ve met wonderful people who come to my gigs so I’m really looking forward to everything we’ve got planned for the coming year.”

Acoustic magazine said “It’s phenomenal to watch him but it’s still more daunting to consider that he also sings up a storm and writes cracking songs. Morley is a true original”.

Doors open at 8pm. Admission is €10. Seating is limited. Support is from local singer-songwriter Knoeline Keane.
