Galway schools needing rebuilding and refurbishment should be included in the €2 billion stimulus package announced by the Government this week.
This is the view of Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish. He said that while the inclusion of the M17, N18 and N17 Tuam bypass is “greatly welcomed”, he wants to see Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh, Clifden Community School, and Lackagh National School approved to proceed as part of this package.
The three schools were at advanced stages in the school buildings programme when they were removed from the list by Education Minister Ruairi Quinn earlier this year.
Dep Grealish wants to see them reinstated. “The stimulus package is about creating jobs and promoting economic recovery,” he said. “All of these schools are ready to go to construction straight away. The knock on effect of immediate job creation and construction of these schools will increase economic activity and hence increase the tax take for the Government.”
He is now calling on Government TDs Brian Walsh, Seán Kyne, and Derek Nolan to lobby Minister Quinn to have the projects approved.
