GALWAY-BASED writers Nuala Ní Chonchúir and Fred Johnston will be in The Bridge Mills this weekend, reading from their work as part of the Galway Fringe Festival.
Novelist, poet, critic, and songwriter Fred Johnston will read tomorrow at 3pm. He will be joined by Mary Dempsey, who will also read, and there will be music is by guitarist Paul Mulligan. Fred’s most recent book is the short story collection, Dancing In The Asylum (Parthian ).
Ballinasloe author Nuala Ní Chonchúir will read from her new short story collection Mother America (New Island ), this Saturday at 2pm.
The stories are set in Ireland, the US, Paris, Rome, and Mexico and explore themes of motherhood, family life, love, abandonment, and human nature. This is the book’s Galway launch and Nuala will sign copies afterwards.
Admission to both readings is free.
The Galway based Scottish storyteller Rab Fulton will entertain listeners with myths and legends, both ancient and modern, with his Celtic Tales event in The Cottage Bar tonight and Thursday July 26 at 8pm. The event is also part of the fringe. Admission is €8/7.
Rab has a number of works due out over the coming months in both traditional and e-publication forms, including Transformation: A modern tale of the Pooka (Dark Continents ), Galway Bay Folk Tales (The History Press ), Marcus Marcus and the Hurting Heart, Risky Bizzness, and for children, Pirates, Dragons & Moon Monsters.
