Look and feel younger with Therapie, says TV doc

Women across Ireland are no longer prepared to sit back and allow wrinkles and lines take over. Non-surgical procedures like Botox and fillers have become unremarkable, and at Therapie Clinic Galway, women can make an appointment for these procedures.

Dr Mark Hamilton, Therapie’s surgeon, has become well-known through his appearances on TV, including TV3’s The Cosmetic Surgery Show. Dr Hamilton qualified as a surgeon at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin and spent a number of years in London before returning to Ireland. While in London he began his career in facial surgery. Originally concentrating on cleft palates and lips, he moved onto non-surgical procedures such as Botox.

“The market just seemed to grow and grow,” Dr Hamilton said, explaining he began focusing on non-surgical procedures as he was impressed by their success rate.

These procedures have risen in popularity in recent years, while echnology and surgical technique have made the procedure simpler and more affordable. There is a perception among some that Botox and other non-invasive procedures are the preserve of the rich and famous. According to Dr Hamilton, this is not the case.

“It’s pretty much commonplace,” he said. “Most women think fairly positively about it now.

“Thousands of women are having it done in Ireland.”

The recession has not affected the numbers of women opting for non-surgical procedures either. Dr Hamilton says that some clients use Botox or fillers for a one-off special occasion such as a wedding. The effects of Botox last for between four and five months, and derma-fillers can last for up to a year.

“Despite a bad recession in Ireland, women have not given up on their anti-ageing regime,” Dr Hamilton said. “We are as busy, if not busier.”

The success of Botox and anti-ageing fillers is the main factor in the treatments’ continuing popularity. Adminstered expertly, it can add a natural, subtle smoothness to the face.

“It’s down to its success,” Dr Hamilton explained. “That it really works.”

Such treatments are safe, and have a recovery time of just a few hours. They leave no scars or other traces on the face. Patients can return to work almost immediately, and are advised not to lie down for up to five hours.

“It’s tried, tested, and vey safe,” said Dr Hamilton.

It is no more painful than many aspects of women’s beauty regimen, such as waxing. Tiny needles are used to adminster the treatment, usually mixed in with local anasthetic.

“I usually describe the pain as no worse than the plucking of an eyebrow,” Dr Hamilton said.

All Therapie anti-wrinkle injectable treatments are adminstered by Dr Hamilton himself, and he will recommend the optimum procedure for each individual client. Thearapie Clinic, located on Shop Street, also offer a wide range of other cosmetic treatments, including laser hair removal, facials, microdermabrasion and many more.
