A 33-year-old Turloughmore man accused of assaulting a garda during an altercation in the city last year has been further remanded on continuing bail.
David Slattery with an address at Coolarne, Turloughmore, Galway, appeared before Galway District Court last Monday charged with assault causing harm, disorderly conduct in a public place, intoxication in a public place, and threatening and abusive behaviour at Shop Street on October 17, 2011.
Inspector Mick Coppinger told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the matter being dealt with summarily in the district court. The inspector explained Garda Michael Murphy had been on duty in Shop Street when an altercation with the accused took place and that it would be alleged that Garda Murphy had been knocked against a window resulting in a head injury.
Judge Alan Mitchell accepted jurisdiction in the matter and remanded the accused on continuing bail to September 12.
