Sunday at Tuam Stadium

Current county champions Corofin take on Cortoon Shamrocks at 5.15pm on Sunday evening. Mick Culkeen’s charges had an impressive 3-18 to 2-7 win last weekend over a disappointing Bearna outfit and they will feel if they can be a bit more efficient in front of goal, they have a fighting chance in this one.

Cortoon have a lot of exciting young players like Cathal Mulryan, Joe Donnellan, and Adrian and Paul Varley. Blended with that youthfulness are the experienced Derek Savage, Donal O’Neill and Fergal Heverin. David Finnegan and David Warde also did well last Sunday in midfield, but the paucity of Bearna’s challenge has to be borne in mind.

This is a really attractive fixture and it will be interesting to see how the Cortoon’s youngsters stand up to the challenge posed by the more experienced Corofin lads.

The second part of the double header at Tuam sees Caherlistrane taking on Milltown (7pm ). Caherlistrane narrowly saw off Claregalway last weekend, but this is a step up in class and I would fancy the scoring power of John and Mark Hehir and Michael Martin to see Cathal Sheridan’s side in the draw for the quarter-finals.
