Wagner’s Ring Cycle @ The Eye

WAGNER’S EPIC Ring Cycle will be broadcast to The Eye Cinema, live via satellite, from The Metropolitan Opera, New York, during the first week of July.

The four operas, produced by Robert Lepage, which make up the Ring, plus a new documentary on the productions, runs at The Eye from July 1 to 8.

Wagner’s Dream, a new film charting the backstage preparations of one of the biggest opera productions ever, will be shown on Sunday July 1 at 7pm. This will be followed by live broadcasts of the operas - Das Rheingold (Tuesday 3 at 7pm ); Die Walküre (Wednesday 4 at 6pm ); Siegfried (Friday 6 at 6pm ); Götterdämmerung (Sunday 8 at 3pm )

Often acknowledged as the single greatest achievement in opera, the Ring tells an epic story of good and evil, gods and mortals, true love, and the destructive lust for the absolute power of the magical Gold Ring.

They will be performed by an all-star cast including Bryn Terfel, Irish mezzo soprano Patricia Bardon, Stephanie Blythe, Deborah, Jonas Kaufmann, Eva-Maria Westbroek, Eric Owens, Waltraud Meier, Iain Paterson, Hans-Peter König, and Jay Hunter Morris.

The conductors for the shows will be the Met’s music director James Levine for Das Rheingold and Die Walküre, and Met’s principal conductor Fabio Luisi, for Siegfied and Götterdämmerung.
