Three Galway bodybuilders are set to compete on the global stage this Saturday June 16 at the National Amateur Body
Building Association
World Bodybuilding Championships at the Bord Gais Energy theatre in Dublin.
The three Galway representatives on the Irish team all train at the Galway City Gym on the Tuam Road. They are Laura Newton, Dave O’Neil and Rory Collins.
Laura Newton is widely regarded as one to watch in female bodybuilding, which is one of the world’s fastest growing sports. She has recently come under the guidance former NABBA pro Jason Corrick, who has won multiple Mr World and Universe titles. She has already competed in both Ireland and the UK.
Personal fitness instructor Dave O’Neil has competed on the Irish bodybuilding circuit for a number of years and has trained a number of top athletes including rugby players and footballers. He is also well known for his work in training Hector O’hEochagain and others from RTE ahead of the Euro 2012 Championships, and often features on 2FM giving updates on their progress.
Rory Collins made the switch to bodybuilding from powerlifting, in which he is an Irish record holder. So impressed was NABBA Ireland with his prowess that it drafted him into the national team before he had competed, having first given him the opportunity to go on stage in Northern Ireland to demonstrate his skills.
